WHAT IS ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION?
Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, and ten times higher than the USA. Ultraviolet Radiation (UVR) is a major cause of skin damage. Ultraviolet rays are invisible and there is no direct correlation between temperature and UV exposure.
The Ultraviolet Protection Factor is a scale developed by the Australian Radiation Laboratory to rate the Ultraviolet Radiation protection provided by materials. The term UPF was chosen to distinguish it from SPF scheme for Sun screens though the protective categories are directly comparable.
The following guide, although simplistic, is useful in understanding how UPF’s work.

On a clear summer day in Australia, a person with unprotected fair skin can receive enough UVR sunburn in 10-15 minutes. Wearing protective clothing or Sun screen or seeking safe shade prolongs the time period before skin damage can occur. The UPF rating is your guide to the level of protection a product offers.
It works in the following way.
A product with a UPF rating of 15 will allow only one fifteenth of the UVR to pass through it; a UPF rating of 20 will only allow one twentieth of the UVR through and so on. Obviously the higher the UPF rating the longer the protection against UVR.

The shade cloth on offer has a UV-B up to 99% and shade up to 98% dependant on brand and colour choice (see the attached schedule showing the technical data of some of the brands on offer).
They are guaranteed for ten years against UV breakdown, however some of the shade cloth brands have been used through out Australia for over ten years without a single UV breakdown on the cloth. There is no maintenance on the fabric simply hose down if necessary.
VINYL APPLICATIONS: -
Barrier Shade Co. only uses the Ferrari range of vinyl's, have a five year guarantee with, thirty (30) different colours to choose from in the Ferrari 502 range. The vinyl is pre-stretched and ensures a good finish when tensioned.
The structures are pre-manufactured making them quick and easy to install and can incorporate other features such as lighting.
Turn around time from the date of order to delivery is approximately fourteen working days.
